New Life
On Easter weekend over 100 international students from colleges around Southern California and representing 23 countries arrived at InterVarsity's training center, Campus by Sea, on Catalina Island. While 60 of the students did not consider themselves Christians, they came with their friends and heard a speaker re- tell the story of a father's relentless love for his prodigal son from Luke 15. That weekend many heard of God's relentless love for them and all people for the first time.
Joe, second from left in the photo below, is from Myanmar, works as a sushi chef and attends Pasadena City College (PCC). When he met some Christian students in the InterVarsity chapter at PCC during the fall, he was full of gratitude and said that he had been praying for this. He began going to church with them and when they started a Bible study on Sunday evenings, he told his boss that he would no longer work on that day. When the Easter conference speaker asked if anyone would like to commit to Jesus, he jumped from his seat. No one else stood up, so he walked to the front alone for the speaker to pray for him. This took a lot of courage, but everyone knew that it was real. Praise God for Joe and the four other students from PCC who ultimately decided to follow Jesus at the conference and for others who have made decisions since returning to their campuses.
More than 37,000 international students study at universities and colleges in Southern California. The world is at our doorstep. Thank you for your partnership on campus through which students like Joe are invited to discover God's love in Christ.
Gratefully,
Tom

Poly Pomona, Cal State LA, and UCLA at Campus by the Sea for week-long camps studying the Gospel of Mark.
In April I spoke on a panel at the weekly UCLA InterVarsity meeting about "family." Our son Daniel who is a freshman at UCLA, "debuted" that night as the percussionist for the Bruin Christian Fellowship worship team, which he will be a part of next year.
